Welcome to our preview of the next version of AutoCAD, Version 2008, most likely shipping late March 2007. Information shown on this page is purely forecasts (educated guesses) and is not based on use or information of the actual product. Be sure to check back in late March for our actual product review. DGN Support Since it almost made it in the last release, along with the fact that its being offered for testing on their Labs site, we expect full support for the MicroStation DGN file formation in AutoCAD 2008. Following the recent trend of referencing like DWF Underlays, its reasonable to expect DGNs to be attached in an xreference fashion. Windows Vista Support Since Microsoft is beginning to release the new version of the Windows operating system, its a given that Autodesk will want to release a fully compatible AutoCAD as soon as possible. New Tools The big thing with 2007 was the new file format and 3D enhancements. That means the logical follow up is possible improvements in speed and fixes, but most importantly tools. We forecast the new AutoCAD will mostly be made up of enhancements to existing tools in the areas that are most important to drafting, which (no matter how diverse they try to stretch it) is the purpose of the program. What Won't Change The file format and add-on compatibility won't change, don't expect that until version 2010. Summary Be sure to check back in late March for all details. |
